First Be a Good Animal — PART 2 — Train Smarter

Build the System

Knowing where you stand is not the same as knowing what to do about it.

Part One gave you the instruments. It told you what to measure, how to measure it, and what the research says about what the numbers mean. That knowledge is genuinely useful. It is also, on its own, insufficient.

The dashboard shows you the reading. Part Two is about what you do with it.

Six protocols. Each one addresses the instruments directly — moving the numbers, supporting the adaptations, and creating the conditions in which the body can do what it is built to do when given adequate stimulus, adequate recovery, and adequate respect for what it actually needs.

They are not separate. They are a system. And the system begins with the training session.

The system also has a structure: the 12-week, four-day progressive resistance program. That is the plan. Find it before you go further. Part Two is not a prerequisite — it runs alongside the program, informing how you execute each session and recover from it.

One more note before we begin. Part Two introduces an instrument that didn’t appear in Part One. Sleep score. The five metrics from Part One measure your trajectory — they shift over weeks and months. Sleep score measures last night. It changes nightly. Its job is to govern today’s training session, not to track where you are headed over a twelve-week cycle. It belongs here.
